Note To My Critics:

The links to the many sites that I've included contain information that I believe to be relevant, be it the graphics, the videos, the undercover investigations, etc. . Exposing & and ending the brutality and savagery inflicted on the non-human animals is what I am focused on. I strongly believe that every voice against animal abuse/exploitation is of value and -and- collectively we have the power to end it. I am here for the animals, not for anyone's approval and for that I make no apologies. ** I do not promote violence towards humans. ___________________________________________________ Bookmark and Share

In Canada it is a crime to witness and document the killing of seals without a government permit and with a government permit it is a crime to approach closer than 10 meters to a seal killer and it is illegal for the permit holder if a sealer approaches within 10 meters of the observer.

These regulations are designed for the specific purpose of stopping the world from witnessing the incredible cruelty inflicted on the seal pups by Canadian sealers. In a very Orwellian manner the Canadian government calls these laws the Seal Protection Regulations.

Sea Shepherd will continue documenting and fighting to stop this cruel hunt of baby seals. We will keep the pressure of world criticism on Canada which enables us to urge the rest of the world to refuse seal products.

In April of 2009, Sea Shepherd captain Alex Cornelissen of the ..Netherlands.. and 1st officer Peter Hammarstedt of Sweden will go on trial on charges of violating the Seal Protection regulations. Sea Shepherd expects to win this case also and will be filing a civil suit against the Canadian government for damages.

The regulations are in effect a part of a harassment strategy by the Canadian government. They know that they can not easily prosecute these regulations but they can cost the arrested parties a great amount in legal fees and inconvenience.

WE MUST CONTINUE TO BOYCOTT CANADA, AND BRING THIS HORRIFIC SEAL HUNT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE WORLD AND MASS MEDIA.

"The harp seal pup once described by the missionaries to the Inuit people as the lambs of God now scream in government dictated silence as they die out of range of cameras and the eyes of the compassionate. How far is the Canadian government going to go to protect this horror show? How much money, time and resources is the Canadian government intending to spend to defend the actions of these monstrous baby killers who exterminate innocent creatures in their nursery? We intend to find out ".... Captain Paul Watson

Letter to the European Union. Sadly, with their hands legally tied by 'questionable' laws, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, are the only organization providing any care or security on the ice for the tiny and unsuspecting victims of this horrendous crime, who have absolutely no means of escaping from their killers, so it is not only a brutal act, but a cowardly one. Their human defenders only weapon, a camera! For this reason alone they have lost their great ship the Farley Mowat, now impounded by the Government of Canada and have been labelled as 'militant criminals' by the ex Canadian Minister of Fisheries, Loyola Hearn. False accusations indeed! Sea Shepherd, now hounded by the Canadian Govt with the constant threat of arrest should they return to defend the unfortunate and battered little seals of the wild, is guilty of no crime, unless Compassion is now a crime in Canada; they are simply informing the world, and rightly so, of the inhumane activities which have resulted in an eco-crime scene. of pr portion. No yellow tape or chalk is big enough to mark it. No living creature should ever have to endure such cruelty at the hands of supposedly decent' men. We do not accept these blatant lies that cover for vile butchery' at it's worst, no less.

Costco is Now in the Baby Seal Killing Business

..

When word that Costco had removed the seal oil capsules hit the media in Newfoundland, the negative local controversy solicited the cowardly and false reply that Costco had removed the product because it was not making money and that they had no communications with Sea Shepherd.

Yet, Sea Shepherd has e-mail and phone mail records of negotiations on this issue going back more than a year.

"Costco simply lied," said Sea Shepherd Canada spokesperson Steve Thompson. "I handled these negotiations personally and the decision to remove the seal oil capsules was a direct result of our talks."

However, under pressure from the Premier of Newfoundland and the Canadian Minister of Fisheries, Costco has waffled yet again and informed the media that they will restock a product obtained through inflicting incredible cruelties to baby harp seals, a so-called "health" product that contains heavy metals and PCB's and a product that presents a threat to the marine ecology of the Northwest Atlantic.

Costco has decided that to save face in one store in Newfoundland, they are willing to call Sea Shepherd's bluff over an international boycott of all Costco outlets worldwide.

It is not a bluff. Sea Shepherd is now officially calling for an international boycott of all international Costco retail outlets.

This boycott was officially announced on the CBC today by Stephen Thompson. This boycott begins with the Society itself. "Last year, we stocked our ships with thousands of dollars of provisions purchased from Costco at locations in Jacksonville, Florida; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Seattle (2 locations) and Mount Vernon, Washington. The value of the seal oil capsules sold by Costco does not equal the amount we spend for supplies alone."

A boycott will include rotating pickets at Costco locations, leafleting to customers, internet communication, celebrity endorsements of the boycott, and advertising.

Boycotts involving marine animals have been quite successful over the last year. Disneyland agreed to stop serving shark fin soup after Sea Shepherd threatened to call a boycott in 2005. This last week, Nissui corporation divested their shares in the Japanese whaling fleet after Earth Island Institute launched a boycott of their New Zealand subsidiary Sea Lord and their U.S. subsidiary Gorton's Seafood. Red Lobster has also felt the sting of the international Boycott of Canadian Seafood products, a boycott called by Sea Shepherd, HSUS, and other non-profits, and supported by Trader Joe's, Wild Oats, Whole Food Markets, Legal Seafood, Miami Crab, and hundreds of restaurants across the United States.

Costco has decided that they would rather support men who viciously club helpless baby seals over people of compassionate who are opposing this horrific slaughter of over 325,000 seal pups annually.

As long as Costco supports the killing of baby seals, we will not support Costco. We urge animal lovers and conservationists worldwide to send a message to Costco: "We will not shop at Costco outlets while you have baby seal oil capsules on your shelves in your store in Newfoundland."

SEAL OIL found unfit for human consumption by CFIA
Body:
SEAL OIL found unfit for human consumption by CFIA

Omega-3 Seal Oil capsules revealed to be made from decomposed rancid Canadian seal oil.

The CFIA enclosed memo from J.E. Mercer, CFIA Inspection Manager, regarding Omega3 SEAL OIL stating that: "A sensory inspection was conducted... All six samples were rancid. Sample #5 also had a decomposed odor."

The CFIA health inspector said: "If these samples were presented to us as representing one lot, we would FAIL the lot."

Canadian Omega 3 seal oil may pose a health risk to humans.

[btw if you are not from Canada, the CFIA is like the FDA, the Health department, in Canada.]

Use this. In the campaign against costco. Tell media that this happened previously in other batches of seal oil. And, since seals are officially classified as "Fish" by the govt, seal products are NOT checked for mammalian infectious diseases! You heard right. The DFO classified seals, as a fish. As in .. Dept of Fisheries. So inspection of their carcasses consists of inspectors giving them the tests they run on Fish. And of course seals are mammals, so they don't have "ich" and so forth. They have brucellosis, and spekk finger etc. But they come out clean for infectious fish diseases so they pass it right through.

(DIRECT ACTION CONCEPT)

..

Here is an idea, for the COSTCO initiative. This is a bit of DIRECT ACTION, that some people might be able to do.

Let someone rustle up a little graphic image, with a very startling image of the seal hunt on it, and write some brief text on it describing the issue with COSTCO contributing to the perpetuation of it.

Then, have people all over the country, print some copies of it out on their color printers, go into the COSTCO stores and tape them all over the place. Notably near the bottles of that stuff!

As a twist, a few tech-savvy people out there may even be able to put the pic on a USB stick and since costco also sells pc's they could put that image onto all the store's demo pc's as its desktop background, or even the screensaver photo.

In the text, one can write how COSTCO perpetuates the butchery, and if there's enough room, one could explain how the seal oil *could* be contaminated with mercury. (We may not know, if they filtered it out, or not, without some kind of laboratory testing on it, but just writing "may" contain it, and "could" cause organ damage, could be enough to deter purchases of it.

Clear taping a piece of paper onto a shelf or cap of the bottle would be a way to conduct some direct action, without causing any harm to anyone, and without causing any damage to anything, if the person were even stopped in the store.

(If one were to be a bit more brash, a person might use say a more industrial strength adhesive tape, and if it were taped to the paper lable of the bottle, then they'd have a heck of a time getting it off there without tearing or peeling the lable off part of the bottle. Making it tend not to be bought by a customer. And it could be argued that the person applying it didn't hurt anything, THEY did it, when they peeled it off. lol.)

Otherwise, standing outside passing them out to customers is always an option.
