Note To My Critics:

The links to the many sites that I've included contain information that I believe to be relevant, be it the graphics, the videos, the undercover investigations, etc. . Exposing & and ending the brutality and savagery inflicted on the non-human animals is what I am focused on. I strongly believe that every voice against animal abuse/exploitation is of value and -and- collectively we have the power to end it. I am here for the animals, not for anyone's approval and for that I make no apologies. ** I do not promote violence towards humans. ___________________________________________________ Bookmark and Share

100 healthy sled dogs slaughtered in Whistler, B.C.

100 Sled Dogs Killed In British Columbia Due To Slump In Tourism

The heinous slaughter of 100 dogs in British Columbia has revealed a "dirty secret" of the dog sled industry, according to CKNW.

Following the 2010 Olympic Games, there was a slump in business at Outdoor Adventures Whistler. CBC News reports that an employee was ordered to kill 100 dogs from a pack of 300. The dogs were repeatedly shot and had their throats slashed before being dumped into a mass grave.

The employee describes one dog whose "eye was hanging off, and it was still running around." Another dog was dumped into the grave while still alive, and the Outdoor Adventures Whistler employee watched as the dog tried to climb out. The employee has been reportedly compensated for experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after conducting the killings.

It is unclear if the company will actually face criminal charges. According to Marcie Moriarty, general manager for cruelty investigations with the BC SPCA, it is actually legal to shoot an animal if it dies instantly. But the report seems to demonstrate that these dogs did not instantly die, and thus SPCA plans to now dig up the mass grave to determine if there is substantial evidence for a criminal investigation.

These 100 dogs were used for human entertainment, and were then murdered when humans were no longer entertained by them. While this story is horrific, similar events happen regularly - many race horses are slaughtered once past their prime, and up to 4 million pets are killed in shelters each year, often due to bored or unprepared owners abandoning them.

As for the inhumane slaughter of these dogs, farm animals are frequently tortured and killed for human consumption. The murder of these 100 dogs is not unique, and animal slaughter is often performed in the name of human interests.

Dogs Live Here

NOTE:  I've posted this poem on my blog a while back but because of something I read last week I feel the desire to repost it.  I have printed this to hang on the front door of my house.  Since I'm somewhat of an  eccentric 'artsy-fartsy' person I am going to make an ornate  plaque  to hang permanently on both my front and side doors............I've  been accused of being many things but  never of being 'conventional'.  ;)

Dogs Live Here

If you don't want to be greeted,
With paws and wiggly rears,
Don't come inside,
Because DOGS LIVE HERE.
If you don't like the feel,
Of a cold nose or wet tongue,
Don't come inside,
Because DOGS LIVE HERE.
If you don't want to step,
Over scattered toys,
Don't come inside,
Because DOGS LIVE HERE.
If you think a home,
Ought to smell like perfume,
Don't come inside,
Because DOGS LIVE HERE.
But if you don't mind all this,
You'll be instantly loved
When you do come inside,
Because DOGS LIVE HERE!

A Tragic Love Story

Note: Animal exploiting Industries and Corporate Owned Scientist  openly deny  animals are capable of a wide range of emotions and posses a language of their own.  They do so because to publicly admit this would make it much more difficult for them to justify their barbarism.

Love and sorrow is felt by all living creatures.

Here a swallow lies fatally injured after being hit by a car as she swooped low across the road...

Her mate brings her food and attends to her with love and compassion...

He brings her food again, but finds her dead. He tries to move her...

Aware that his sweetheart is dead, he cries out...

Finally, realising that she will never return to him, he stands beside her body in sorrow...

Raven and Pig

Raven and Pig

by P. Najafabadi
©
Raven sits at the highest point in the tree,
he stretches out  shining black wings to be warmed by the sun
and looks down
watching, waiting for Pig

It is her turn

Pig doesn't understand what's happening
she just knows that she's afraid

she can hear the screams of other pigs
she senses their fear

and it feeds her own

she smells the hot coppery scent of blood in the air
mixed with terror

the man screams at her

he beats her across her back with his stick

he kicks her

she is so terrified that her bowels let loose right where she stands

she turns around  trying  to escape the man

in her panic she slips on her own excrement and falls on her side

the man is enraged

and he continues to beat her with his stick
and kicks at her as she struggles to get up and away

bruised and bloody

in pain and terrified

she is herded to that awful place

jammed into a filthy, bloody box

a bolt is rammed into her head and she is stunned
her leg is shacked

she is hoisted by one leg into the air
and her throat is  cut

 still conscience

she struggles violently while suspended helplessly

and the blood gushes from her neck
hot and salty it stings her eyes

Raven waits for the moment that Pig  gives in to blessed death

then lifts his head and releases a long scream towards the heavens in protest of pigs' murder

then he swoops down to gather her essence

and carries her away on shining black, sun-warmed wings

away from the wicked men
who hearts were  hard and eyes too blinded by greed
to see Pig with her sweet sensitive spirit
for the gift that she was.

Raven looks down on the shells of men knowing that they are already dead

for they had murdered their own souls the moment they murdered their first pig.

Australia's hideously cruel treatment of newborn dairy calves

There is no stopping Australia's hideously cruel treatment of newborn dairy calves- and it's about to get worse!!!!!!

by Stephanie Dyer on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 7:02am
To murder any animal is unspeakable but to murder newborn animals is beyond contempt......and to make the process as horrific as possible is just criminal..... Australia murders around 700 000 unwanted newborn dairy calves each year.....they are seen as wastage and treated as such....

'Bobby Calves' are the hidden, silent victims of the Dairy Industry. Within hours of being born (around 12 hours of age) they are taken from their mothers, then at the tender age of 4-5 days old, they are trucked to slaughter...if that isn't sick enough it's about to get worse...

The term ‘bobby calves’ means newborn calves that are less than two weeks old and not with their mothers.

In Australia over 700 000 bobby calves are sent to slaughter because they are simply unwanted, they are seen as nothing more than a by product of the dairy industry.  Dairy farmers see these newborn calves as a threat due to the fact they wan't to drink what farmers make their money from, and that is of course their mums Milk.... Milk which is meant for baby cows, not for humans...

When trucked from farms to saleyards, and of course eventually to their final destination being murderhouses, they are treated in the most horrific ways. These little calves that can barely stand on their little wobbly legs, are dragged, kicked, thrown and belted around, yes this is how most unwanted dairy calves are treated.

Products from processed calves include young veal for human consumption, valuable hides for leather and byproducts for the pharmaceutical industry.

FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE THE BELOW LINK:http://kb.rspca.org.au/What-happens-to-bobby-calves_87.html

"Just when we thought the treatment of these newborn calves couldn't get any worse, it's about to"

TO TAKE THESE BABIES FROM THEIR MOTHERS IS SICK ENOUGH BUT TO MURDER THEM IS SIMPLY UNSPEAKABLE, AND TO MAKE THE PROCESS SO UNBELIEVABLY HORRIFIC IS SIMPLY INDEFENSIBLE ON ALL LEVELS...

The Australian Dairy Industry, in conjunction with the University of Melbourne and the Department of Primary Industries, has decided that murdering these babies is not enough, no they want the process to be as dreaful as possible for newborn calves.  Industry members have put forward a submission which will see already abused calves denied feed for up to 30hrs. During this 30hrs these babies will be carted around on trailers and trucks and end up at murderhouses. The Australian Dairy Industry has already stated that newborn calves deteriorate after being denied feed for up to 24hrs, however the industry now plans on ensuring these babies are not fed for up to 30hrs, all the while knowing these calves will of course suffer greatly. The Australian Dairy Industry and the Australian government is showing yet again the utter contempt it has for these innocent little victims, victims which are simply seen and treated as rubbish in Australia.

BOBBY CALVES DENIED FEED FOR UP TO 30HRS

Dear Ministers and other relevant parties

I have recently learnt that Australian newborn dairy calves (bobby calves) may soon be treated with even more contempt than they are now, and I am of course horrified by this as I imagine any decent human being will be.

It has been brought to my attention that a submission asking that bobby calves be denied feed for up to 30hrs, may be accepted in the very near future. I believe this to be outrageously unethical and deplorable.

One has to ask why the Australian Dairy Industry and the Australian government would want to inflict further abuse and suffering, upon already abused 4-5 day old calves?

Surely removing these newborn calves from their mothers at approximately 12hrs old is sinister enough, not to mention carting them off to saleyards and of course slaughterhouses at the tender, vulnerable age of 4-5 days old.  But to deny these newborn calves feed for up to 30hrs during the process, is simply unconscionable.

Dairy Australia's own research found that the welfare of bobby calves begins to deteriorate from 24hrs off feed, and that is if conditions are ideal.

The University of Melbourne’s (Australia) so called ‘scientific research’ which was carried out in 2009/2010 to ‘prove’ that newborn calves do ‘not’ deteriorate when denied feed for up to 30hrs, is far from acceptable. In fact it could be said that these ‘tests’ were carried out using healthy bobby calves, not calves that would normally be trucked for slaughter. Also the tests were conducted in reasonable weather conditions, not conditions which bobby calves would be forced to endure when trucked from farm, saleyards and then to abattoirs.

The proposal to deny newborn calves feed for up to 30hrs is based purely on economic benefit, and has nothing to do with animal welfare.  Australia claims to have the ‘best animal welfare practices in the world’, however this disturbing proposal clearly shows that this is simply untrue.

I ask that this submission be rejected.

Yours sincerely

What to do if You've Found a Bat

Bat World  <---- Please Visit

What to do if You've Found a Bat

QUICK HELP BOX

Do NOT handle the bat with bare hands and do not
attempt to rehabilitate the bat on your own. To do so could
jeopardize your safely as well as the life of the bat.
Please read the instructions provided through the links below.

For additional information please read below

The first concern many people have about bats is rabies. Like most mammals, bats can contract rabies. However, less than one half of one percent of bats actually catch the disease. Additionally, sick bats do not seek people out for attack; they generally search for a secluded spot to die quietly. According to the Center for Disease Control, people cannot get rabies from just seeing a bat in an attic, in a cave or at a distance. In addition, people cannot get rabies from having contact with bat guano (feces), blood, or urine or from touching a bat on its fur (even though bats should never be handled).

However, if you are bitten by a bat, or if saliva from a bat gets into your eyes, nose or mouth, seek medical attention immediately. Whenever possible, the bat should be captured and sent to a laboratory for testing. In addition, bats that are found in a room with a person who cannot reliably rule out physical contact (for example a sleeping person, a child, a mentally disabled person or an intoxicated person) will need to be tested for rabies. If contact has occurred or is suspected call your personal physician or local health department immediately. If contact has not occurred please proceed to the links above to obtain step-by-step directions on how to safely rescue the bat.

Morbid Tendencies

Morbid Tendencies is selling two types of dead bat specimens; a bat in a jar and bat skull earrings. When owner Windy Lewis was contacted about where she purchased the bats to make the specimens pictured below, she jokingly replied "You probably mean the dead bats and mousies? Biological supply companies!" (For comments on killing animals herself please visit her FAQ page.)

It is no joke, however, when animals are purchased from these companies. Bats in particular roost in caves in large numbers, making them easy targets for unscrupulous wildlife dealers who harvest them by the hundreds while they very much alive.  These bats are then needlessly killed to become hideous specimens such as those pictured below. When bats are purchased from these wildlife dealers it only increases the trade of an animal that is vastly decreasing in numbers.

The Morbid Tendencies website states: "Beautifully preserved little beasties living suspended in jars... Bats are now back in stock, thank god, so order away....!

Bat in Jar: $42 includes delivery anywhere in the US. Very delicate webbed wings and darling crumpled faces. You would punch a nun to get them! You’d suck the blood out of a wounded puppy.

Sterling, Emerald, and Natural Bone Bat Skull Earring with Ankh (Single): $35.00. Real bat skull wired with solid sterling silver, with an emerald cabochon plus an ankh dangly bit. For those of us with green eyes (or who wear green).

Dear Windy Lewis,
Your name has been listed on the Wall of Shame at www.batworld.org because you are selling real bat specimens. It is not a joking matter when animals are purchased from biological supply companies. ACTIVISTS DENIED PUBLIC RECORDS - ASSISTANCE REQUIRED

Messages - ACTIVISTS DENIED PUBLIC RECORDS - ASSISTANCE REQUIRED
10 minutes of your time is required to shed some light on vivisection at the University of Florida.

A campaign has begun to expose the use of primates at this institution. It has been established that researchers at UF have received well over a million dollars of tax payer money to i) perform invasive lesion experiments on primates that irreversibly damage brain tissues and ii) infect them with retrovirus to investigate neurological wasting with no proposed link to curative applications. Other publications and grant applications exist outlining past use of primates at this university and calling for their future use. Rather than participating in an open dialogue with activists, the university has banned the activists from the property, attempted to falsely distance individuals from experiments they sanction, and refused to provide copies of veterinary records pertaining to specific animals used. These are public records that document tax payer funded experimentation. Camille Marino has requisitioned these documents, paid all fees associated with pulling them, and was ultimately denied access to the information after it was reported to be ready for pick up. The University of Florida has yet to offer any concrete rationale for withholding these records. I am asking that everyone call and write to Ms. Sikes of the University of Florida to ask her why records that were paid for and promised are now not forthcoming and why researchers who commission, seek funding, and take credit for experimentation are not considered participants in it. This woman has been the primary apologist for the specific researchers called into question and has played a central role in denying activists the records that the law entitles them too.

It will take just a few moments to place a call but will do much to put pressure on the university to explain why they believe are above the law. For all who abhor vivisection we must remember that we are involved in one struggle – success in stifling this machine at any university will have resounding effects on all others. Please support Florida activists in holding universities accountable for what happens behind their closed doors.

Stop the Texas Dog Extermination: Immediate & Sustained Action Needed

NEGOTIATION IS OVER – Stop the Texas Dog Extermination: Immediate & Sustained Action Needed

Dara Miner

by Matt Miner & Sloane Quealy-Miner

Texas attorney Cynthia Stevens Kent (also a former state district judge) is pushing to have all dog breeds and mixes of breeds that fall under the term “pit bull” outlawed in Texas. The possession of a “pit bull” type dog would result in a third degree felony.

The first proposal would ban all “pit bull” type dogs in Texas, making it a felony to “own” one. This is, in a nutshell, a proposal to kill every single pit bull in Texas.

In case her first insidious proposal fails to pass, Cynthia Kent has a second equally unjust proposal that also needs to be fought against as vigorously as the first.

The second proposal places unreasonable and unfair rules and restrictions on pit bull guardianship. These restrictions include making pit bull guardians carry expensive liability insurance, among other expensive requirements – seemingly to intentionally discriminate against those in lower income brackets.

Either proposal will be a death warrant for thousands of dogs and will bring about a holocaust for pit bulls, the likes of which we have never seen. The streets of Texas will run red with the blood of these dogs.

(link to proposals http://tylerpaper.com/pdf/pitbull-proposal.pdf )

At the bequest of Cynthia Kent, the deadly duo of Senator Kevin Eltife and Representative Chuck Hopson will sponsor the bill and put it in front of the next legislative session.

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED:

Contact the individuals below IMMEDIATELY and tell them you do NOT support any breed ban! The proposed pit bull holocaust in Texas must be stopped!

DO: Contact the individuals below and express your strong opposition to both of these pieces of proposed legislation.

DO NOT: Mention that you are not a TX resident, if you are not – if you are asked for a location, the following link is a good resource to find TX zip codes by county: http://bit.ly/gStyw7

Some Things To Consider

Stories that cause people to seek out breed specific legislation are tragic BUT they involve individual dogs and are not representative of the countless other “pit bull” type dogs that are friendly and well socialized. Cynthia Stevens Kent and others would like ALL American Staffordshire Terriers, ALL Staffordshire Bull Terriers, ALL American Bulls or any other dogs displaying the majority of physical traits of any one or more of the above breeds to be punished for the actions of a few.

Programs to prevent the public from “dangerous dogs” MUST be legal, fair and effective. Breed bans are unfair; penalize thousands of good dog guardians to penalize a handful of irresponsible ones. Breed specific legislation kills thousands of good, loving, balanced dogs in attempt to eliminate a few bad ones. Aggression is not a breed issue, it is a dog issue. Any dog breed can be “trained” to behave aggressively. This fact has been supported time and again. Organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society, the ASPCA, American Kennel Club and the American Veterinary Medical Association are only a few who have spoken out against breed specific legislation. BSL will not work, as it target is misplaced to the dog and not the owner. It embodies faulty ideas about genetics and depends on a law enforcer’s subjective opinion about how a dog looks.

Breed bans are ineffective. ALL DOGS CAN BITE. Numerous jurisdictions have repealed breed specific legislation in favor of dangerous dog laws. Also, numerous jurisdictions did not see any decline in dog bites when they did ban pit bull type dogs Studies of pre and post breed ban dog bite rates in the United Kingdom and Spain concluded that their pit bull breed ban had no effect whatsoever on reducing dog bites. Indeed, Hiawatha, Iowa repealed their pit bull terrier ban because of identification problems and expense. Now that DNA testing is available to determine the breed of a dog, breed discriminatory laws have gotten very expensive for cities and counties to enforce. Topeka, Kansas also recently repealed their pit bull terrier ban for the same reasons. The Topeka City Attorney’s Office issued an explanation for repealing this ban as a part of their new animal control ordinance. http://bit.ly/fSWJJ9 (pages 3-5).

Denver, Colorado banned pit bulls in 1989. In the years following the ban, the city continued to suffer a higher rate of hospitalization for severe dog bite injury than the breed neutral jurisdictions in the state. The Denver incidents ALL involved dogs identified as other than pit bulls. In Spain, a study of dog bite reports from five years before breed specific regulation was enacted and five years after, revealed that there had been no reduction in dog bites. The Netherlands maintained a breed ban for 15 years, but has since repealed it, in favor of owner responsibility laws.

In its study of human fatalities resulting from dog bites, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) did not support the breed specific approach. The CDC noted many other factors beyond a dogs breed may affect a dog’s tendency toward aggression – such as reproductive status, heredity, sex, early experience, and socialization and training. These concerns seem well-founded given that more than 70% of all dog bite cases involve unsterilized male dogs, and an unneutered male dog is 2.6 times more likely to bite than a neutered male dog. In 2006, 97% of all dog related human fatalities in the United States involved unsterilized canines.

Breed bans cause shelters to fill up with unadoptable dogs. No room for dangerous dogs of other breeds. Criminals ignore breed bans along with other laws. Other dangerous dogs continue to threaten community. An increased number of competent animal control officers need to be mobilized to investigate abuse and or neglect, and other complaints so attacks by any dog can be avoided. Programs such as mandatory education classes on good ownership and obedience training need to be in place if a dog is declared dangerous or has been reported running loose/menacing an excessive amount of times. If people are convicted of abuse/neglect they need to be ordered not have any other animals. If a dog is found to be “dangerous” the dog should be spayed or neutered, microchipped for positive identification and muzzled when out in public. Outlaw the tethering/chaining of dogs as 25% of all fatal dog attacks involve tethered or chained dogs.

Breedism is the same as racism and it is legislation like the proposed that are responsible for the deaths of so many loving, gentle and beautiful animals. Innocent dogs suffer every time they are passed because not only does it give false verification to the public that pit bull type dogs are vicious but it effects the ability of people in the communities to adopt these animals as well as rescues/ shelters to adopt out these animals.

Stories regarding pit bull attacks are blasted all over the news but it is stories like those below that people never hear about. Here are just a few of the many cases where pit bulls have performed heroic acts.

Korean Government Buries Pigs Alive, Refuses to Vaccinate for FMD

Government Buries Pigs Alive, Refuses to Vaccinate for FMD
NOTE:  How does one even respond to this horror?  I can't imagine what these poor, beautiful, innocent animals suffer at the hands of these Soulless, Bastard Devils.  How can one read about how humans torture &  butcher other beings day after day after day and still believe there is a merciful god?  I can't.

Sunday, 26 December 2010 13:39
More than 1,400,000 animals killed and counting.

Pigs are ruthlessly buried alive, and this will continue to happen because the Korean government has refused to vaccinate the animals against foot-and-mouth disease.
One report says that around 90% of all animals, including cattle, have been buried alive.
More horrific images below and here.
pigs_buried_alive4
(photo © 경인일보 kyeongin.com)
The first case of foot-and-mouth (FMD) was reported in North Gyeongsang Province on November 29, and since then it has spread. In December, it was confirmed on pig farms in Paju, Yangju and Yeoncheon. It was also confirmed on a farm northwest of Seoul.
Then it was found in Gangwon, the country’s most important province for animal farming, at cattle farms in Pyeongchang and Hwacheon, located 182 kilometers and 118 kilometers east of Seoul, respectively.
In Gyeonggi, the disease has spread to a hog farm in Yeoncheon and Gimpo, plus to two cattle farms in Pocheon.
There have been 116 cases of FMD as of January 12.
FMD affects all hoofed animals--such as cattle, pigs, goats, deer and buffalo--and any country that has it is banned from exporting meat, even though meat from infected animals does not harm humans. So tragically, once again, in what is almost a yearly ritual, mass slaughters have taken place, and this time in record numbers. Culling is comprehensive and brutal.
pigs_buried_alive5
(photo © 경인일보 kyeongin.com)
This month, to prevent the spread of the disease, all cows, dogs and chickens at farms were also killed and buried.
Currently, there are about 610,000 cloven-hoofed animals on 16,000 farms in the province. Gangwon boasts some of Korea's best beef brands, such as Hoengseong and Daegwallyeong. Many of these animals could face slaughter.
Since the outbreak of FMD on November 29, over 1,400,000 animals have been either culled or are destined for slaughter--many have been and will be buried alive.
pigs_buried_alive2
(photo © 경북매일신문 & kbmaeil.com)
As a consequence of FMD spiralling out of control, the Korean government considered administering vaccines to farmed animals, a common-sensed thing to do. However, it has many opponents because it will make it difficult to regain FMD-free status later on. It will also cost a lot.
At least 78 billion won ($67.8 million) is needed to secure vaccines for 3 million cows as well as for 10 million pigs. The damage so far is estimated at over 230 billion won, and that will only increase.
Regrettably, the government has begun inoculating cattle in five cities but will not vaccinate pigs.
Based on the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Guidelines (Chapter 7.6 Killing of animals for disease control purposes, Article 7.6.1., Terrestrial Animal Health Code), the welfare of the animals shall be ensured until they are dead. As a member of the OIE, Korea's burying of pigs (and other animals) alive is in violation of the international guidelines, not to mention being torturous, cruel and immoral.
KARA has strongly advocated including pigs in the vaccination program but to no avail. It is clear that the government is putting economic considerations before animal welfare as it has done in the past.
Despite KARA and other animal rights groups condemning the practice of burying animals alive and causing untold suffering and mass cruelty, this nightmarish practice is likely to continue.

Update, January 4, 2011
People are now reporting "blood water" coming through taps in Paju City near where mass burials took place. More here.
Update, January 6, 2011
People assigned to cull animals are reportly suffering guilt and trauma from the terrible way everything was done. They can still hear the cries of the animlas and have called it a living nightmare. They have experienced lost of appetite, mental stress and depression, including in some cases a reduced will to live. Psychological counseling has been made available for them at the welfare center in Gyongido. Thirty one posts in Gyongido have been setup for counseling and post traumatic stress help due to the live cullings.
The government has ruled out euthansia drugs for cattle, so cattle are being buried alive as well.
The military was called in and some 68,000 soldiers and 770 pieces of military equipment have been mobilzed to help with the culling.
Total deaths so far stands at 1,000,000.
Update, January 7, 2011
An estimate 1,000,000 more animals are expected to be killed, most by the inhumane and barbaric method of being buried alive.
Government has finally begun to vaccinate pigs.
But more criticism is being leveled at it for its inadequate preventative measures and poor response. KARA had urged the government weeks ago to begin mass vaccinations. We were ignored.
Update, January 8, 2011
Here is a brief description of just one culling episode.
In it is claimed that pigs that tried to escape were killed with excavators by being crushed, hit and having heads split open by their blades.
The number of pigs was 1138. A total of 27 people participated in the culling: local government officers 18, official vet 1, engineers 7, livestock cooperative official 1. There were 3 excavators and 4 trucks.
Culling started at 5 pm and finished 11 pm.
Baby pigs were put into bags alive, 7 or 8 per bag, and buried alive. Large and strong pigs were dumped in a pit, but the toughest struggled to get out. When they attempted escaped, excavators pushed them back with their shovels with violence and would kill them. (Note the 3rd photo from the top.) It is described that their heads are split open.
Update, January 10, 2011
Reportedly, 1.2 million pigs and cattle across the country will be vaccinated over the next few weeks and the government will try to get vaccines for 6.5 million animals by the end of January.
Typical of the Korean government throughout this disaster: too little too late to save innocent lives.
Update, January 12, 2011
Cull deaths now stand at 1.41 million.

"This is the biggest cover-up in the history of America,"

NOTE:  Why has the Main Stream Media been so silent on this issue?  My best guess is: They're Corporate Owned or Corporate Influenced.
HARRY R. WEBER | 01/ 7/11 06:50 PM | AP

PORT SULPHUR, La. — Federal and Louisiana officials got into a heated argument Friday over the cleanup of oiled marshes during a tour of an area that remains fouled 8 1/2 months after the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
State and Plaquemines Parish officials took media on a boat tour of Barataria Bay, pointing out an area where oil continues to eat away at marshes and protective boom is either absent or has been gobbled up by the oil. The heavily saturated area that reporters saw was 30 feet to 100 feet wide in sections. No cleanup workers were there when reporters toured the area.
The marshes are critical to the Louisiana coast because they protect the shore from hurricanes and serve as a nursery for Gulf sea life.
"This is the biggest cover-up in the history of America," Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser told reporters, gesturing with his gloved right hand, which was covered in oil.
Nungesser was accompanied by Robert Barham, the secretary of Louisiana's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
As the two were answering questions from reporters, representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration interrupted to point out that a plan is being developed to clean up the marshes. They also insisted that the government has not abandoned the Gulf, nor has it lost sight of the fact that BP is a responsible party.
"Clearly there is oil here in the marsh but we are working as a team to find a best way to clean it up," said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Dan Lauer. "It's a high priority."
The two sides then got into a heated argument, with Nungesser using profanity.
"It's like you're in bed with BP," Nungesser told the Coast Guard and NOAA officials.
Lauer responded that he understands the frustration, but vowed that the cleanup would continue. "No one has ever said, 'it's over, we're going home,'" he said.
Nungesser has been a frequent and outspoken critic of the cleanup effort ever since oil from the April 20 accident began infiltrating the environmentally delicate Louisiana coast line.
Lauer and the NOAA official who tagged along on the boat tour, Scott Zengel, said a cleanup plan was being developed, though they gave few details. They also couldn't explain why there is no mechanism in place to keep the situation from getting worse nearly six months after the flow of oil to the sea was stopped.
A Coast Guard spokesman, Lionel Bryant, said in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press that rushing to clean oil from fragile areas can cause more harm than good. He also pointed out that the treatment plan being developed must be approved by federal, state and local officials.
BP spokesman Daren Beaudo said in an e-mail that with the exception of the occasional tar ball, there is no evidence of significant amounts of oil from the blown out well reaching the Louisiana shoreline since the end of August. He also cited a Thursday letter from a BP official to Barham that says tests of 23 plots have been taking place for the past three months to determine a clean-up method that provides the biggest benefit. Cutting, raking, washing and vacuuming the oil-soaked marshes are some of the methods being tested, the letter said.
The explosion that destroyed the BP-leased Deepwater Horizon rig killed 11 workers and, according to government estimates, led to more than 200 million gallons of oil spewing from a hole a mile beneath the Gulf of Mexico. BP PLC disputes the figure, but has yet to provide its own.
Aside from the damage done to tourism when the oil hits Gulf Coast beaches, there are numerous environmental concerns. Among them is the damage done to the delicate reeds and grasses that grow in Louisiana's coastal estuaries. The marshes serve as nurseries for a variety of microscopic sea life – the bottom of the food chain that replenishes abundant Gulf  fisheries.
Also, the killing of marsh grasses contributes to a long-standing erosion of Louisiana's coast and barrier islands, the state's first line of protection against hurricanes.
The impact on wildlife also remains a concern. State officials said that in recent days six more birds have been recovered with oil on them. They said that noisemakers used to keep the birds away from the oil haven't been enough in some cases.
